The Village is a £13.7 million addition to The White Rose Shopping Centre in the Beeston area of Leeds, West Yorkshire. The new extension includes an 11-screen cinema, operated by Cineworld IMAX, a children’s play area and six new restaurants all set in a stylish outdoor community space where visitors can interact, dine al fresco until late or simply sit. The area will also be used to host seasonal events to offer shoppers fun, full-day experiences besides bringing the community together. With our Envios projectors we created a stunning lighting solution that is efficient and flexible within a unique and eye-catching criss-cross suspended grid design.

The lighting design brief required a robust, high-performance projector lighting scheme that could be supplied in an unusual bespoke colour and be mounted within a single cable catenary system that would be suspended high across the walkway. It was also imperative that the lighting effectively constitute an uninterrupted continuation of the walkway from the existing retail facility so as to create a consistent flow and gently lead customers to the new eating and leisure area. The brief also required the lighting to match the original White Rose branding.

Reggiani worked with Stockport based Studiotech, part of the IBT Group, who were responsible for the design, supply, installation and programming of the new system. By providing Studiotech with its tough but visually-appealing Envios projector – complete with a very impressive and reassuring IP rating of 66 – Reggiani was able to help satisfy the design brief exactly. All of the fittings used came with a single LED source, giving a concentrated light output of up to 1661 lumens in the chosen cool white colour temperature of 4000K. In addition, all the luminaires were supplied in a customised cucumber green outer casing.

The Envios comes in three different sizes and has been designed specifically to offer excellent illumination in outdoor urban environments – all with the same excellent IP66 protection rating against the ingress of dust and water, and with a variety of fixtures and accessories that will help provide a solution for any exterior design brief.

Ed Vickery of Studiotech commented: “The Envios fittings were the ideal luminaire for this application, being easy to install and aesthetically pleasing, they have been a great addition to the solution we provided at The White Rose leisure extension”.
